Skye Ross | Motherness

Skye.

We spoke to entrepreneur babe Skye Ross, creative strategist, host of Motherness podcast, mother and total beauty, about some of her favourite things…

What fashion brands do you love?

I love to support local as much as possible and my favourites are:

  • Marle for their natural fibres, and thoughtful, timeless design

  • Ruby for their effortlessness, playfulness, signature pieces, and desire to always do better

  • Maggie Marilyn for everything they stand for ethically, their beautiful, feminine silhouettes, as well as founder Maggie Hewitt’s incredible business acumen.

Internationally, I adore Cecilie Bahnsen, Christopher Esber, The Row, Sir The Label, and Isabel Marant, to name a few.

Which skincare brands are your must-haves?

Biologi is my ride or die - their Hydration and Luminosity serums have changed my skin. I also use Tribeca Skin Tonics Exfoliating Balm and the Janesce Peppermint Cleanser. All four can be found at The Facialist, whom I adore and trust implicitly with my skin.

What is your favourite Beauty Dust product and why?

Without fail, I use the Nourish Leave In Conditioner after every wash! It just sets my hair up for perfection whether I blow dry or let it dry naturally. I love that it does it all: triple conditioning, repairs, detangles, reduces frizz, gives protection and prevents breakage. What more can you ask for? But you bet I’m eyeing up the new shampoo and conditioner combo!

What music are you listening to right now?

Right now, I’m more addicted to podcasts. So much so, I’ve launched my own called Motherness. But my favourites on rotation are The Daily, Shameless, and Offline.

Who are the females inspiring you right now?

One of my favourite people, who I look up to greatly for how she conducts herself and her brand with such grace, is my friend Maddy from The Twenties Club. I also love following Beck Wadworth, Eleanor Pendleton, Harper & Harley, Sophie Pearce, and Emma Leger.

Fave places to hangout?

I’m happiest at the beach, going for a walk up one of the many mountains near my house, always with a podcast playing in my ears.

What purchase for $100 or less sparks JOY in your life?

I can’t go past a Diptyque candle. Divine every time.

What’s top of your mind when it comes to products and brands?

I’m passionate about brands who focus on sustainability and diversity because it’s at the heart of their brand and their ethics, not because they think they should, not because it’s good for PR, and not because we demand that of them as modern consumers, but because they want to. It’s incredibly evident when the intention isn’t genuine. I love brands who are authentic and aren’t perfect but are continually striving to do better, like Beauty Dust and many others I’ve listed here for you today.

Our budding entrepreneurs would love to know, if you feel overwhelmed, unfocused and have lost your mojo what do you do?

I switch off, take a break, let myself sit in whatever I’m feeling, try decipher why I’m feeling that way, and know that if it’s being caused by something out of my control I can only focus on myself and what I can make happen. If it’s overwhelming, I make a list of what I need to do to move past any roadblocks I’m facing – my top three priorities sit at the top and I do those first before moving onto anything else on the list.
